Okinawa Karate & Kobudo

Hamaya-Ryu
Hamaya-Ryu was founded by Jimmy Chinen Teller as a personal expression of his Okinawan heritage.
The name Hamaya comes from the house name Hamayaguwa, which means "First House on the Beach".
Our style teaches Okinawan Karate of Masanobu Kina, the Kobudo of Masanobu Kina and Oyata Seiyu, along with the Tuidi of Oyata Seiyu.

Karate
Karate (空手 - "empty hand" or 唐手 - "Chinese hand) is an empty-hand fighting system that originated in Okinawa, blending indigenous Ryukyuan and Chinese martial arts.
Kobudo
Kobudō ( 古武道 ) literally means “old martial way” and refers to the traditional weapon systems of Okinawan martial arts. It is a discipline that preserves and transmits the use of various weapons developed in the Ryukyu Kingdom
Tuidi
"Tuidi" (トゥィーディ) is the Uchinaaguchi word meaning "seizing techniques" and refers to the old Okinawan joint locking art.
